Cricket: Danielle Hazell is called up to Twenty20 Squad

Hazell, who hails from Durham and is on the Durham Academy is a talented 21 year old off-break bowler and right-hand top-order bat. This will be her debut international tour. She has been a key member of the Academy squad and was last year awarded a Chance to Shine coaching contract.

The ECB selected Hazell from their four named reserves seeing her as the next best bowler for the Twenty20 format. Danielle was called-up based on her bowling performances in County cricket and how she bowled at the full England side on Thursday May 28 in Twenty20 practice matches at Loughborough.

Clare Connor head of women’s cricket commented: “We are obviously hugely disappointed that Anya has been withdrawn from the England squad on the eve of the ICC World Twenty20 as she would undoubtedly have played a significant part in the team’s campaign.

“However, we want to ensure that Anya, who is still only 17 years old, has ten successful years ahead of her playing for England. The advice of the ECB’s Chief Medical Officer and the England Women’s Physiotherapist was utterly clear and now the experts will work on a rehab programme for Anya to follow once we know the results of her scan.

“One player’s disappointment is another player’s opportunity and we welcome Danielle Hazell in to the squad as Anya’s replacement.”
