Lawn bowls: England name seven new caps for British Isles Series

England will field seven debutants at the British Isles Senior International Series in June.

Selectors have named the 25-strong team which includes Devon trio Natalie Melmore, Nicola Payne and Sian Gordon, Leicestershire’s Laura Tucker and Jenny Groves plus Jamie Lea Winch of Warwickshire and Penny Strong of Lincolnshire.

There is also a recall for Somerset’s Edna Bessell, the current National Two-Wood and Four-Wood singles champion, who was unavailable last year.

Herefordshire’s Tracey Powell will captain the side at Les Creuz Bowls Club, Jersey, from 16-18 June.

The junior series will be held in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, from 19-20 July and two women will make their England debuts.

Lauren Copeland (Yorkshire) and Ruth Cullum (Lincolnshire) will earn their first caps with Surrey’s Debbie Sarratt captaining the side.
