Bicycle Maintenance: the best female friendly courses
With increasing numbers of people turning to bicycles as their preferred method of transport the need to learn the basics of bike maintenance has never been more important to ensure that you keep pedalling.
Get Mountain Biking
Where: Macintosh Centre, Brixworth Country Park, Northamptonshire
With no prior knowledge assumed, this women only maintenance course is particularly suitable for absolute beginners.
Get Mountain Biking aims to keep your bike out of the bike shop by giving people the knowledge to undertake minor repairs and adjustments. Emergency trailside repairs, sprocket and crank removal, as well as the information to service your bike are all taught in this one-day course that includes lunch, refreshments and a goody bag.

Cycle Training
Where: London
Run in conjunction with other courses which aim to give confidence to inexperienced riders in a busy inner city traffic environment, Cycle Training run a basic course focusing on fixing punctures and changing brake pads while the intermediate experience looks to develop bike knowledge to include re-greasing bearings and wheel truing.
It’s not a women course, but they do offer bespoke maintenance training, either on a one to one basis or to small groups of individuals, so if you prefer you can gather a group of your girl friends and learn together.

Life Cycle UK

‘Simple, friendly and jargon free’, Life Cycle UK’s one day bicycle maintenance course is perfect for beginners and the cost not only includes tuition but all spare parts that might be needed, including inner tubes, cables and break pads.

Dirt Divas
Where: Crowthorne Wood, Berkshire.
With an emphasis placed on off road riding, Dirt Divas aims to teach women trail side repairs using a hands on approach. The course includes an essential tool kit for each person, which will be used throughout the morning session.
After the provided lunch there is a three hour guided ride through the wood to enjoy and perhaps put your newly acquired knowledge to good use.

Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative

Gear tuning, brake adjustment and puncture repair are all part of the women’s intensive cycle maintenance class that takes place over one day and includes lunch.
Dealing with common roadside repairs, the class run by the Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative aims to equip people with the knowledge to keep their bikes running smoothly and enable them to enjoy a trouble free commute or weekend cycle ride.
