Wales’ Olympic Gold Medallist Nicole Cooke MBE is supporting a new campaign to get everyone ‘Feeling Good About Newport’ which was launched in the City last weekend.
The World Champion Road racer, who regularly trains in the City’s world class Wales International Velodrome said: “It’s great that Newport supports sport so well and I hope that world class facilities like the velodrome and others around the city continue to be used by everyone in the community, from schools and clubs to sporting champions!”
Nicole’s picture will appear on the campaigns posters and banners in key locations around the city, showcasing some of Newport’s success stories.
The campaign marks the launch of the countdown to Newport 2010, one of the most significant years in the city’s modern history as it reaches the halfway point of its “2020 Vision” for the city’s regeneration.
Councillor Matthew Evans, leader of Newport city council, said: “Newport is a unique city with some inspiring success stories. We want people to feel good about Newport and share our sense of excitement and anticipation that the next 18 months will be some of the most memorable in the city’s modern history.”
2010 will be a milestone year in the city’s development and across the city a diverse range of events are being planned aimed at creating a ‘festival’ atmosphere in Newport, culminating in October when the Ryder Cup takes place at the Celtic Manor Resort.
