3 stars 5 questions

April 23, 2009

We ask three of our favourite sportswomen the same five questions. See what Rebecca Adlington, Nicole Cooke and Holie Avil have to say.

Rebecca Adlington

What is your main sporting aim for the year?
I just want to stay fit and to be able to compete to the best of my ability this year. My priority is to qualify and then do well in the World Championships in Rome. All my training this year is focused on doing my best in August.

If you could go on any reality TV show what would it be?
I loved Strictly Come Dancing! I was a big fan of Mark Foster. But I simply don’t have the time to do one of these shows. Maybe when I retire!!

What is your favourite meal?
My mum’s Sunday roast. Her Yorkshire puddings are the best!

What do you love most about your sport?
I love racing. After months of hard training you rest down for a competition. It’s always nice to rest down; we only do it about twice a year so it’s always a totally different feeling in the water, but a good one. It’s brilliant when you come to race and you race well, it’s such a satisfying feeling knowing that all the hard work has paid off.

What other sport would you choose if you couldn’t be a swimmer?
I’ve been swimming since I was 8 years old so its hard to say what other sport I would choose. Swimming is so different from any other sport – I do enjoy watching tennis but I’m not very good at it!

What is your main sporting aim for the year?
My main aim for 2009 will be to enjoy wearing the rainbow jersey as world champion with pride and to enjoy my racing. Results wise I will be targeting the World Road Race champs in Mendrisio, Switzerland.

What do you love most about your sport?
The mixture of mind and muscle. You need more than just speed and strength to win as there is a big tactical element in road racing, you get to look at your rivals as you come to the crucial part of the race and think “some how I am going to beat you!”

What other sport would you choose if you couldn’t be a cyclist?
I’ve never seriously done this, but cross country skiing or biathlon (cross country skiing and rifle shooting combined) has always appealed to me. They are physical sports and in biathlon there is the psychological factor every time you have to shoot the targets, because if you miss there is the penalty in time or extra distance you have to ski.

If you could go on any reality TV show what would it be?
I wouldn’t, I live my own life!

What is your favourite meal?
A roast dinner

Nicole Cooke is an ambassador for EAS Sports Nutrition

Hollie Avil

What is your main sporting aim for the year?
My aim for the year is always the same – to go out and give my best effort in every race that I do. If I give my best in every race, I will be happy with what ever the result!

If you could go on any reality TV show what would it be?
I think it would be Shipwrecked….if I could take my adidas run shoes and Boardman bike with me!

What is your favourite meal?
My Mum is one of the best cooks in the world, in my opinion!! One of my favourite meals is her lasagne – it always hits the spot! However, if I’m cooking for myself my favourite meal is beef stir fry, packed with loads of veggies!

What do you love most about your sport?
Because there’s three disciplines in triathlon ( swim, bike and run) you can make the training so varied! You can swim in the open water or in the pool, run on the road or off road and bike on a static bike or out on the road. And that’s only to name a few of the different ways you can train for each discipline! You can never get bored of training! It’s a real sociable sport to if you train with others.

What other sport would you choose if you couldn’t be a triathlete?
I think it would have to be running. I just love the feeling of running fast and putting miles and miles into the legs.
