On day two of the British Swimming championships Hannah Miley broke the 200m individual medley European record in two minutes 09.59 seconds.
The nineteen year old, who is trained by her father in her local four lane 25m pool near Aberdeen, had finished sixth in the 400m medley at the Olympics and also holds the European record at this distance too.
She said she was surprised by her swim, “After the Olympics I just took two weeks off and wanted to get back in the pool and become bigger, faster and stronger. It shows what I am doing is working and hopefully I can carry it through and make sure I can keep working.”
Beijing open water silver medallist Keri-Anne Payne was second in the event.
In the 100m butterfly 17 year old Ellen Gandy set a new British record breaking Gemma Lowe’s mark, and booking her place at the World Championships. Gandy currently trains in Australia after a family move, alongside the likes of Olympic and world breaststroke champion Leisel Jones.
Second place went to Fran Halsall who was also breaking records, this time in the 50m freestyle record with a time of 24.53 seconds.
Double gold paralympian Eleanor Simmonds was also back in the pool. She lowered her 400m freestyle world record in the S6 classification, touching in 10 seconds faster in 5:31.44.
