Netball: Brunel ready to take on Bath
Brunel Hurricanes will face their toughest test yet in this season’s Superleague on Monday when they travel to leaders Team Bath.
Bath have remained unbeaten so far this season and their squad jam packed full of England athletes have looked unflappable but Brunel are in buoyant mood after five wins in a row which has built confidence and self belief in the Hurricanes camp.
Last year the same fixture saw Hurricanes start fantastically well notching up a 4-0 lead in the opening minutes but Bath eventually came out on top winning by just three goals.
This season sees a completely different scenario with a new look Brunel side and new Head Coach Natalie Swift, whilst Bath also have a new coach in charge, former player Jess Garland.
There will be some exciting match ups; Hurricanes will have their inspirational defender Sonia Mkoloma on board who was unable to play in the clash last season. The England co-captain could come up against her England team mate Pamela Cookey, a real clash of the titan’s should both players start in their favoured positions.
Former Bath player, Brunel’s Asha Tett will see old friends turn to foes for the night. Tett who won the league title twice with Bath stated, “It’s really exciting to go back and play at Bath but I will be treating it just like any other game. I’m 100% Hurricanes now and really enjoying my time here, it’s a huge learning curve for me and playing week in week out is fantastic and very important to me”.
Other news includes Bath having England player Tamsin Greenway return to their side following a recent injury but two other England players are still returning to full fitness. Shooter Rachel Dunn and defender Geva Mentor are yet to play this season for the South West side but have taken part in training sessions this week and could be in contention for a place in the squad of twelve on Monday.
The match will be shown on Sky Sports Extra on the Co-operative Netball Show on Thursday 11th December at 5pm.
