Olympic 400m champion, and Sportsister magazine cover girl, Christine Ohuruogu has been named Athlete of the Year by the British Olympic Association at the UK Athletics’ awards in Solihull.
The 24 year old Londoner made history when she became the first British woman to win a 400m Olympic title in Beijing. In 2007 she also became World Champion in Osaka, just weeks after returning to competition following a 12 month ban after missing three out-of-competition doping tests. But after UK Athletics concluded she was guilty of a technical offence her Olympic lifetime ban was overturned.
Ohuruogu, also won the British Athletics’ Writers Association female athlete of the year last month for the second consecutive year.
The Newham and Essex Beagles runner also won the Commonwealth gold in 2006 and the World 4x400m bronze in 2005 and 2007. She is set to be a gold medal hope in London 2012.
