Sawtry Colts is Sportsister’s Club of the Month for October. This football club has been running since 1989, has around 300 members and this season has just introduced a dedicated Girls Football Development Centre.

Girls Football Development Centre.
There are currently four girls teams running, but with this new initiative a further two are expected to be put together. The scheme, which is being launched in November, will give girls a free of charge opportunity to learn basic football skills in a fun and friendly environment (a £10 club registration fee does apply).
To launch the scheme, Sawtry Colts ran it’s first taster session on 14th September, which ex-Peterborough United footballer Ryan Semple attended.
The centre, which is open to girls between the ages of four and eight will commence regular weekly, hour-long sessions on Sunday 2nd November 2008. These will take place inside at Sawtry Leisure Centre, providing a safe, warm and dry environment for the girls to try out the game.
Training
The training programme will start with basic technique and then enhance and develop skill further as the season moves on. And during the season there will be regular assessments and awards for girls that attend
There are a maximum of 12 places available per squad and all girls from Sawtry and the surrounding area are able to apply for a place, which are offered on a first come, first served basis. Once the centre is fully subscribed a waiting list will operate to try to offer as many girls as possible the opportunity to get involved.
In addition to the Development Squad there are girls teams for U10,U11,U12 and U13, with club training on Thursday nights and matches every Saturday. And the club organises an annual Girls Football Tournament, which provides a great, fun occasion for all, but especially the newer members.
Sponsorship
These training sessions can be offered free of charge because of generous sponsorship from Produce World In Yaxley who are committed to supporting the local community actively and encourage a more healthy lifestyle for children.
