Four great women’s sports blogs

If you like reading everyday women’s sports stories, take a look at these women’s sports blogs chosen by Sportsister for their honesty, humour and personality.
Blogs are written mostly as a creative outlet, often by people who previously had no particular interest in writing, they offer a more personal medium within the internet and make the perfect lunchtime web-surfing bookmarks.

With bloggers sharing everything from their routes to their favourite jogging soundtracks, these pages seem a tempting alternative to a running companion. Offering all of the same discussion, and less of the age old hassle of talking whilst running.

Running gadget reviews are to be expected between hilarious rants about drinking and irritating work colleagues or impressive race t-shirt collections.

Written by sporty Brits, these four blogs are our favourites:

Crunchy ‘Nanas

Crunchy ‘Nanas is the blog from Nora, a 30 year old Californian ex pat. Darting between running, yoga and swimming, her light hearted entries are absorbing and interesting.

She’ll gladly share tips on the best songs to accompany you on a run and writes about her training progress without being self indulgent.

Expect the odd cursing of the weather, understandable for somebody hailing from the notoriously sunny state. Personal entries punctuate the archives, with photography and eco matters also getting a mention.

Nora says ‘Bananas are wonderful things. But, I like them crunchy. Please don’t call me a banana snob unless you can honestly claim you like green bananas just as much as you like brown, bruisy bananas. I didn’t think so’

Warrior Women

Angela is the blogger behind Warrior Women. Focusing on running, and with the occasional nod to cycling. The blog came into being after Angela’s ambition to lose weight led to a new found interest in exercise.

She always has an interesting project on the go; her most recent was the Salomon and Nokia XT Wings Challenge of running the London underground map. Over 11 days she ran from station to station in a rough recreation of the tube routes, and catalogued her progress, with funny observations scarily familiar to Londoners.

Angela says, ‘I’m not your typical sporty type but I get an amazing satisfaction from taking part in events. I’d like to think some readers are inspired to give it a go, regardless of their current sporting level’

London Jogger

A music video and commercial producer by day, London Jogger blogs anonymously for her site of the same name. She keeps a list of her upcoming races in her toolbar, be sure to check that while you read about marathons exploits; she never seems to stop!

By discussing the prices of gym membership, and where to get the best deals on running shoes; London Jogger is as genuinely helpful as she is entertaining. She also includes her latest running statistics in her posts; recording her pace and calories burnt whilst admitting to the occasional Cadburys crème egg..

She says, ‘For me sport is just an interest although I want to be a 2012 volunteer, and I’m crazy about Chelsea FC’.

JogBlog

Described by her readers as candid, honest and laugh out loud, Cathy’s JogBlog has been going for the past two years. She’ll feature aerial photos and detailed race routes and as well as the typical runners dialogue. Sportsister loves her novel running statistics, like “families taking up the whole path: 1” alongside her miles tally.

Thrown in for good measure are some healthy recipes and gadget reviews. With regular comments from the other featured bloggers, the sense of community is as appealing as the visual design of the page.

Cathy says, ‘I get to Kingsland High Road which has got to be the most boring street in the world to run down and I’m constantly being cut up by people crossing my path in their quest to get to the fried chicken or kebab shops’.
