Britains’ leading snowboard cross racer Zoe Gillings has finished fourth in the first event of the World Cup season in Argentina.
The 23 year old had a couple of bad falls in practice but bravely continued and only just missed out on a podium finish.
Gillings said: “It’s been a really tough race and I have suffered several minor injuries but in true English style I battled through and ended with a good result.”
Several competitors were taken off in air ambulances after particularly bad falls at the challenging course in Chapelco. It is the first time a world cup event has been held in Argentina.
Reigning world champion Lindsey Jacobellis (USA), took the first win of the season with Mellie Francon of Switzerland coming second, and 2008 Snowboard FIS World Cup winner Maelle Ricker of Canada finishing third.
