Paralympics: Shelly Woods wins bronze in race re-run

Shelly Woods has won a Bronze medal in the re-run of the T54 5000m, earlier in the week Woods won a Silver, but the event was re-scheduled after a crash involving several competitors.

In todays race, she finished behind Amanda McGrory and Diane Roy, who won bronze and gold first time,”I don’t think the decision was right to re-run it,” she told BBC Sport.

In the original race on Monday, six of the eleven athletes were involved in the crash and three countries protested. This meant that despite having awarded the medals the event was declared to be re-scheduled and the athletes had to return their medals.

Woods has stated that she felt it was an unfair decision and the original results should have stood. “Crashes happen all the time - I have had my fair few in racing,” Woods told BBC Radio 5 Live.
