UK School Games present some of Britain’s future female sport stars.

The 2008 UK School games held in Bristol and Bath last weekend showed off some of Britain’s up and coming female sporting talents.

Nine different sports including athletics, swimming, fencing and hockey make up the Games, which are held for the UK’s elite young athletes of a school age with over 1500 youths competing.

This year athletics in particular displayed some undeniable talent and perhaps future Olympic athletes. Shaunna Thompson came first in the Women’s 200m Sprint with a time of 23.42 seconds, just 2.08 seconds slower than the current World Record holder Florence Griffith.

Javelin competitor Izzy Jeffs from Taunton underlined her London 2012 potential after she gained the title of second longest British under-17 distance ever recorded, with a spectacular throw of 47.74 metres.

Double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington opened the events on Thursday evening saying: “The UK School Games is the first major competition in the London Olympiad. What an exciting event and I wish all the athletes who are competing the best of luck.”
