Britain United – Olympic photography exhibition

August 19, 2008

A great new photography exhibition, created by adidas, and featuring some of GB’s leading Olympians is currently on show in London.

goldie-sayers.pngSituated on London’s Southbank, it features 20 Olympic and Paralympic athletes on 2.5m high back-lit frames, which can be seen from across the Thames.

All Team GB and Paralympic GB athletes featured in the exhibition come from all corners of the UK and were shot in locations around the UK which are meaningful to them, from Edinburgh in the North through to Plymouth in the South West. Locations included their home towns, schools, beaches, forests and moors and the places where they first began the training that has taken them on their path to sporting success.

Some of our favourties include 400m runner Christine Ohuruogu (below left) on top of a black cab outside Stratford station and Goldie Sayers (above right) pictured with her javelin on top of a post box.

Other athletes showcased include British diving prodigy Tom Daley, marathon runner Liz Yelling (below right), Olympic and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Marlon Devonish, London Marathon winner and Paralympian Shelley Woods and World Champion track cyclist Victoria Pendleton. Over 15 different sports are covered in the exhibition across ten different disciplines.

It’s quite significant I’m here today as I think my love of sport came from my schools and in particular, my local primary school, which is just up the road. I think this exhibition is an excellent way of inspiring the whole country to support the athletes that are going to compete at the Beijing Olympic Games”.

adidas have been supplying kit for athletes taking part in the Olympic Games for over 80 years and are the official kit sponsors for Team GB in Beijing and London 2012. All athletes were shot wearing the adidas Team GB and ParalympicGB kit that they will be wearing in the Games.
