Canoeing: Jessica Walker wins gold in Europeans.

July 21, 2024

Jessica Walker, the UK’s youngest ever Olympic female flatwater canoeist, demonstrated her potential this weekend by winning gold and silver medals at the Junior and Under-23 European Championships in Szeged, Hungary.

Walker, 18, won the Women’s K1 1,000m event on Saturday racing to the finishing line in 4min 01.432sec, beating Lisa Marie-Braun of Germany. Yesterday, she missed gold by one second in the 500m K1 event, but was thrilled to come away with two medals.

In Beijing she will be competing with Anna Hemmings in the K2 500m event where a place in the final is very achievable. However with youth on her side, her sights will be very firmly set on London 2012.
