Wimbledon: Robson takes Junior Girls title

Laura Robson became Britain’s most successful player at this year’s Wimbledon when she beat Thai third seed Noppawan Lertcheewakarn to take the Junior Girls title.

The 14 year old, who lives just a five minute walk from the All England tennis club, is the first Briton to win the Wimbledon girls’ title since Annabelle Croft 1984.

Robson clinched the title with a 6-3 3-6 6-1 win, in a tournament that is open to players up to 18 years old. She was the youngest player at Wimbledon this year, and the win means she will be considered for a Wild Card entry in to the senior championships next year.

Robson plans to start competing on the senior tour next year, and the experience gained on a packed Number One court this weekend will have been great for her game.

Previous winners of the Junior Girls Wimbledon title include Martina Hingis and Amelie Mauresmo.
