London gets its first half marathon

London is to host its first official half marathon on Sunday October 5th, 2008 using a unique twist of live music to encourage runners.

The 13 mile race, ‘Run to the Beat’, will start and finish at the O2 arena, taking in three of the 2012 Olympic venues as runners complete the course.

Organisers are looking to create a carnival atmosphere to inspire competitors and spectators alike, providing music specifically designed to motivate runners at strategic points along the route. Popular Radio 5 Live DJ Spoony will be there to lend his support, along with the cast of West End musical Stomp.

The event will see 10,000 people take to London’s streets and with Leukaemia Research the official charity of ‘Run to the Beat’there is all the more reason to sign up.

The race entry fee is £30 per person and for more information go to www.runtothebeat.co.uk
