We have had a busy month spreading the word about Sportsister and getting out to various sporting events to cover for the site.
We were lucky enough to get an invite to the Long Room at Lord’s cricket ground for the launch of the new England cricket team kit, by adidas.
It’s the first time that the England ladies have ever had their own specific kit developed for them, and after such an impressive start to the year retaining the Ashes in Australia they certainly deserve it! Look out for our interview with captain Charlotte Edwards coming soon.
The event drew much of the country’s press and we were pleased to see a good presence of women there too! Great for such a traditional sport as cricket, in a place steeped in old school traditions, the Long Room, for example, has only allowed women members since 1998.
As the sports media is dominated by men, so often at these launches female reporters are few and far between. Surely it’s a factor in why there is such limited coverage on female sports in the mainstream media? Hopefully we can do our bit here at Sportsister, to try and redress the balance.
